Dear Readers, June 9, 2025
I've recently begun growing moderately familiar with a topic that I feel may play a significant role in shaping my writing skills. As a writer who strives to write as flawlessly and authentically as Shakespeare and Tolkien, I've decided to begin learning more about their writing techniques and also Early Modern English so I can strengthen my core in Literature and History, both of which I admire deeply.
Ever since I read Romeo and Juliet last week, I haven't been able to pull my mind away from the depth of the authors writing style. It's mind-blowing how he wrote an entire play that is authentically poetic. Every character is so different, yet so alike. Romeo is passionate and speaks from the heart, and is also sensitive, the opposite of his friend Mercutio, who is the town jester. There is passion, poetry, and loads of literary devices.
The play is peppered with metaphors, foreshadowing, and dramatic irony, along with many other literary devices that play a role in shaping the story. It would not be the same striking story, if it didn't have the metaphors, and foreshadowing, leading to the ultimate tragedy.
J.R.R. Tolkien and William Shakespeare have both contributed in inspiring me to grow as a writer and continue my journey in discovering new techniques and styles of writing. It feels as though my journey with writing has only just begun, and I hope this post can inspire another writer out there to continue learning and writing! ✍️
